Aralia elata - Chinese angelica tree
Small tree or often grown as a large suckering shrub.
Huge bipinnate leaves and very thorny stems. Produces generous panicles of small white flowers in late summer and autumn. Dramatic, architectural appearance. Reasonably fertile, humus-rich, moist soil in sun or part shade. best in a position with shelter from strong winds, which can damage the foliage. Remove suckers as required.
